Boston College QB Patrick Towles says he's playing in honor of Harambe the gorilla

Boston College quarterback Patrick Towles is getting some unique inspiration in 2016.

OK, it’s likely a joke, but Towles, a transfer from Kentucky, posted to Instagram on Saturday that he was going to play the 2016 season in memory of Harambe, the gorilla at the Cincinnati Zoo who was killed after a child fell into its enclosure.

We think Towles was going for “realest” and not “realist,” but who knows.

Harambe has become an internet and social media caricature after the dramatic incident. The gorilla was killed after it grabbed and dragged the 3-year-old boy in the exhibit. Harambe’s death sparked outrage from many angles. Numerous people decided to rush to judgment and become mad online about the treatment of the gorilla as well as the circumstances that led to the child getting into the exhibit.

The boy who fell into Harambe’s environment suffered only minor injuries.

Towles announced in November that he would be pursuing a graduate transfer from Kentucky and is eligible to play immediately at Boston College. He was Kentucky’s starting quarterback for the majority of the 2015 season before Drew Barker, the team’s QB in 2016, started the last two games of the season.
